For several years now, Original Beans has been actively involved in the conservation of the Itenez River Basin's rare source of 100% wild cacao. The cacao grows here on 'chocolatales' or 'cocoa islands' dating back to pre-Columbian civilization. During the rainy season, experts from several indigenous tribes go in canoes to collect the wild beans. They are so small that they require special roasting!
